The ICMPA became the UNESCO Chair of Mathematical Physics and Applications in April 2006, following the application introduced by its Holder, Professor Mahouton Norbert Hounkonnou, via the proper administrative hierarchical procedure (the University of Abomey Calavi, the UNESCO National Commission, the Benin Permanent Delegation at UNESCO), following an earlier application in November 2004 within that framework introduced by Profs. Jan Govaerts (Belgium), M. Norbert Hounkonnou (UAC) and Alfred Msezane (USA). Such a mark of distinction of the ICMPA by UNESCO results from the quality of the activities led by the Chair since its creation in 2001, as well as from its partnership with UNESCO since 2002.
